These photos represent the 24 Homes in the Pademba Road Community area that was mapped. The homes were chosen having gone door to door in the community to get prior consent.

Freetown’s timber board homes (or ‘Bod Ose’ in pidgin dialect) were built by ex-slave families and adopting the western vernacular they inherited from parts of the USA & Canada, were constructed as powerful symbols of status and a declaration of their freedom and property rights. They are striking emblems of the Krio culture.
