These photos represent the 24 Homes in the Pademba Road Community area that were mapped. The homes were chosen having gone door to door in the community to get prior consent.

The prefabricated British colonial homes were borne as much out of a desire for a bucolic enclave on Freetown’s outskirts, as they were for of overt racial segregation. These large timber bungalows, raised on steel pilotis to increase cooling/ventilation, display an early awareness of the basic principles of environmental design.
