The vision of this project is to provide a sustainable and integrated settlement for a marginalized group in Northern Rwanda to live amongst the neighboring Gahunga community.
This sustainable community project will be dovetailed with a current life skills, public hygiene and health, education and skills training program provided by local partners. The design of a new agreed settlement plan will be arrived at through a series of community participatory and skills training workshops. Appropriate technology will be employed whereby the local community will reactivate lost crafts, such as those which utilize natural grass fibres. These crafts will be integrated with modern construction techniques using earth and straw.
We hope to: design a neighborhood settlement for the surrounding community to foster social integration and equity; design and construct low-cost housing which is cost effective, easy to build and promotes local skills development; revive lapsed handicrafts which will be integrated into the building and program of this villge; to build a sustainable community to support the education, life skills, hygiene, nutritional and entrepreneurial skills for social integration.
